Three Natural Ways to Fight Chronic Depression

Updated: Aug 2, 2020

Depression is more biological than its given credit for though its origin can have various external factors. Once it turns chronic it can drastically change one’s life leaving him/her numb and unable to follow through life in a normal manner.

Apart from medications and other steps prescribed by a counselor or a physician, here are three steps one can follow to take back control and fight it naturally.

Change Your Daily Routine

Our daily routine is what makes us. An active routine will make us feel engaged and meaningful while a dull routine will worsen the condition further. Moving in a counter intuitive manner, a depressed person should usually do the opposite of what the body wants to. If you are getting the urge to sleep all day, you should start doing more activities. Same principle can be applied to mood changes - to take the help of activities and people who can instantly bring you out of your brooding demeanor. Though you should always know your limits and not force yourself too much. Chalk out a daily routine in paper with specific timings and follow through it. The overall effect on your mind may seem negligible at first but over time you will surely reap the benefits of a proactive routine.

Exercise

Exercise can instantly lighten both your mood and body. It eats up the stress hormone Cortisol while making you feel good with more Dopamine and Serotonin activity. Start with simple jogging or running. If you want it to take a step further you can always join your local gym and get a personal trainer. Figure out what you like best. You can even play a sport with your friends if that is what you prefer.

Meditation

Meditation has been clinically proved to change the brain structure. It directly works on the amygdala responsible for our emotional well being. For starters, there are various types of meditation exercises. One can always start small and go to advanced mindful techniques. Usually no teacher is needed in the early phase . Focus and breathing exercises can do the trick often. It will clear the mind of unwanted thoughts and anxieties rather than repressing it which most are guilty of.

If you are looking for more techniques, you can always reach out to us at Kyts. We provide a non-judgmental space and environment where you can discuss your problems freely. Our highly trained counselors will provide you with the necessary steps to a stress free and healthy life.

Note: These are merely suggestions and should not be a substitute for medical advice or clinical medication.
